The Opportunity

 

An experienced (5-year minimum) software developer, ideally with experience of leading a team, who will be supported by an experienced program manager, product manager, business analyst, and two developers initially, plus dedicated testing/QA engineers.  Development is in NodeJS and deployed to AWS. Very strong SQL skills are a definite requirement.

 

This person would have the opportunity to recruit, lead, manage, mentor and support a new agile software development team to tackle a number of exciting leading-edge software products which have a significant and direct business impact. Working for an enthusiastic group of stakeholders, this person will be able to help shape the future of software development within the company.  We will be building web and mobile applications, deploying with AWS, with automated testing and deployment, using modern best-of-breed web technologies.  This role is ideally suited to a candidate who has a solid track record of delivering web-based applications in any language, but ideally in NodeJS with solid experience with SQL, testing and other supporting technologies.  Most likely the candidate would have had experience leading other developers too.

 

Location: Berlin or London or remote. Remote workers must be able to travel regularly to London or Berlin.

 

Reporting to: Director of Technology Services

 

Main tasks:

 

  • Software application development through its complete lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture design, coding, testing, debugging, reflection.
  • Recruitment, management, training and motivation of developers
  • Standard-setting
  • Code reviews
  • Management reporting
  • Managing documentation
  • Co-ordination with Program Manager for task management, tracking and reporting

Requirements

Profiles we are seeking

 

  • Experience building complex browser-based business systems
  • Experience as a lead developer of a small team
  • Strong knowledge of SQL
  • Strong knowledge of Javascript
  • Experience of developing in NodeJS OR Ruby on Rails OR Java (or similar)
  • A willingness to work in whatever language is appropriate for the project
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with both stakeholders, developers and other team members in writing and in person
  • Familiarity to with iterative approach to development, e.g. Agile
  • Strong English language skills
  • Understand and use unit testing

 

The ideal candidate will also:

 

  • Have experience of managing and mentoring other developers
  • Have experience of designing for and deploying to cloud based services, e.g. AWS, Azure or Google
  • Have experience in working in a variety of different programming languages
  • Have experience of automated testing, including functional/integration/UAT
